Great
by Frances Rivera from Brooklyn, NY
Definitely thumbs up. It was way more than we expected. Our villa at Crescent Cove was more than enough room for the two of us. The pool and beach were in a 2 min walking distance from our Villa. The staff was excellent they were extremely polite and helpful. Sabatian's restaurant's food and service was very poor don't bother but none the less we're already making plans for our next visit.

Needs but Gives
by R& S Weber from Onalaska, WI
The place needs a little more capitol expense spent on the villas. Little things, like refreshed grout, cleaning of tiles, bathtub upgrades, and wireless Internet in the rooms. "The giving is a great relaxing time and courteous and competent staff. I commend Olga and Angel for the purposeful time they gave us. That helped us overlook a lot of the needs the place has. But what a beautiful grounds and access to a very beautiful beach.

Not that Good
by Glorimar Benitez from San Juan, PR
My husband and I won a free stay at Club Cala. Thanks God it was free because I would not have paid to stay there. In general, we did have a good time and got a chance to enjoy some time off work, etc. However, the customer service was horrible. They were not aware of the operating hours of any of the on site restaurants and even recommended a restaurant that had been closed for a while. Towels for the pool were not available. The pool was really dirty and two of the guests had to help clean it up because the cleaning guy never showed up. The aquaerobics instructor just showed up one day. The other days he did not show up and nobody was nice enough to notify all the guests waiting for the class. On the last day, we were not even able to go to the pool in the morning before checking out because the pool guy was not there, and the door to the pool was closed. We had access to another pool, but no towels could be given to us unless the main pool was open. What else? The villa was comfortable and OK, but only 1 toilet paper for the two bathrooms. At the end, during checkout they would not have returned our $99.00 deposit if we had not requested it. Now we have to send a fax to some central office for them to give us our refundable deposit back. We had some fun playing golf during the afternoons, that was nice. The beach is really rough, not very safe to get in. Oh, and they charged us $2 to use the phone to call the hotel operator.

Better than Expected
by Susan Hamilton from Cleveland, OH USA
Our 1-bedroom suite was perfect for 2 adults traveling with a teenager. Our 'garden view' unit still had a view of the ocean, which was a very short walk away. Unit in Palmas Doradas was clean and functional. Front desk staff was excellent! Very helpful. It was a little difficult to find the restaurants, as signage is minimal or non-existent. Water and waves were great - worth the extra travel time and money compared to FL in late December.

Club Cala De Palmas
by Maria Velazquez from Orlando, FL USA
I went with my husband and 2 sisters and stayed for a week as we did our father's funeral arrangements. When we arrived the first thing we noticed were all the stairs, starting from the parking lot all the way to the front desk and then even inside the units. I had asked them to please change my room to one that does not have any stairs, they said they had no units at all that didn't have stairs. Then we found out that they did have units without stairs and asked them again to please change our unit and they still said no. I have advanced Rheumatoid Arthritis on my knees and feet and it is very difficult to go up and down stairs. I also called Interval with no help at all from them too. I will never recommend this place to any of my friends or to my enemies. They made my stay very miserable.

Palmas Del Mar--No Diving, No Snorkeling, No Fun!
by LE from MD from Maryland
We have just returned from a family vacation to Puerto Rico where we rented a three-bedroom townhouse in Beach Village at Palmas Del Mar through VIP Properties July 1-8, 2006. I must say that we will never be going back and VIP Properties has not refunded any rental fees in spite of the electricity being out for an extended period of time. The beach at Palmas Del Mar is nice and very picturesque, but the water is very rough; the undertow can be strong; and the water had an incredible amount of floating sea grasses. The kids were "grossed-out" because of all the grass that got in their hair or in their swimsuits. There was no snorkeling anywhere close, and the dive shop that was advertised to be in the resort had closed and moved to Fajardo. The five divers in our extended group had to drive an hour north to find a dive shop that was operating dive tours. In addition, the electricity went out during a storm during the night one day and wasn't fully restored until late in the evening. There were no candles or flashlights in the condo, so that it was unsafe even to go into the bathrooms. Then the electricity went out again the next day just as we were preparing for dinner. Our rental agent, VIP Properties, has not responded to our request for some refunded rent, even though we were without air conditioning and food refrigeration. This was a trip I want to forget. My advice: go somewhere else.

Club Cala
by Hugh Reid from Ridgefield, CT
Club Cala was awful. The rooms were terrible with outdated everything. We had to move 3 times and still were not even close to being satisfied. The next day we were sitting next to the pool at the El Conquistador - which is an AMAZING resort. Pricey but well worth it.

Disappointed Vacation
by Mr and Mrs Santiago from Indian Orchard, MA USA
Upon entering the resort it looked like someone just moved out and we showed up. The walls looked like my teenager painted it. The furniture was very cheap and old. I felt like the whole place needed a deep cleaning. Thank goodness my kids didn't come. I would of never wanted to sit them in the tub. There was a big plant in front of a hole in the wall. There was a punch whole in the door. Our cups in the bathroom had dried toothpaste on them. It also looked like they gave my 4 year old some caulking and told her to do around the toilet. We had three towels for 2 bathrooms and no washcloths. Everything in the kitchen was old. Also tiny ants were on counter every time I went in there. I would bang my slippers together to make sure no ants were in them. Our bed had a piece of plywood under mattress. Very uncomfortable. You could feel the springs. The lobby is so small you had to wait your turn to go in. Meanwhile your sweating and tired and we had jeans and sweatshirts because we just came from New England area. We could not past this one guard without him asking for a cigarette. It wasn't just once it was every time. It became annoying. No one at the resort let us know what was in the area or on the resort itself. We never did find the beach! I asked for an iron on Saturday I got it on Monday. The pool closed at 7 and no food or drink were allowed. No Tiki bar? It seemed like a run down retirement community. I will write to interval because they promise a 5 star timeshare anytime we vacation this was a far cry to being five star.

Disappointed with the Villas AC Service
by Rodriguez Family from Miami, FL
The Villas at Palmas del Mar are a wonderful place to visit. We enjoyed the beaches, pool and other recreation places. The only issue we had was the AC unit of our Villa (#BO166) it was not working properly or at all. I called the offices of Remax several times, with no results. I requested a fan and this was provided three days later.

Club Cala de Palmas Needs Capital Investment
by Christine from Raleigh, NC USA
Puerto Rico is a wonderful vacation destination, and Palmas de Mar property was beautiful. Upon entering the grounds, our party of 6 was so excited because of the splendor, beauty, and elegance. Upon entering our unit, 936, at Club Cala de Palmas, we were all strongly disappointed. We thought the resort was Internationally recommended. However, it was clear that the owners have not put any money back into improving the resort. Club Cala was probably a very nice resort 20 years ago. However, the unit was horribly deficient. For example, the unit's door was peeling and falling apart. The bedroom window was broken, and no screen, so lots of mosquitoes came inside. The resort's washer and dryer were broke. As a consequence, we did not have enough towels. The pullout sofa did not have sheets, blankets, or a bedspread. In order to avoid massive condensation, the air conditioning had to be maintained at the lowest setting, i.e., around 55-60. Needless to say, we all froze to death. Kind of ironic being in the tropics, and going to bed with four layers and a hoodie on. The appliances were rusty (refrigerator and stove). The walls and ceiling had mold on them. The staff members were obviously overworked and understaffed. There's no bar or restaurant on site. No activities on site, except if you're into bingo. The surrounding restaurants are OK, but extremely expensive. If only the owners would invest and improve the capital facilities of the resort, Club Cala de Palmas could be revived. One last comment, checking in and checking out were total and utter chaos. There are no luggage trolleys, and there's no place to park and unload. So, many folks had to park in the parking lot and lug there bags about a block to their units and back to their cars upon check out. There was no staff to assist in checking in or out.

Club Cala Dec. 2004
by James McClure from Chicago, IL USA
The Club Cala timeshare resort is one of the smallest and oldest properties in Palmas del Mar, a huge vacation/residential development that is still under construction. The resort itself, which recently changed owners, has potential but needs renovation.
Palmas del Mar is a gated community of luxury condo complexes, villas, and subdivisions with miles of lavishly landscaped grounds, shops and restaurants, country club, golf course, and marina. This is a second home for most permanent residents, so during our off-season December week the place had an empty, post-neutron-bomb atmosphere.
Our unit at Club Cala came well-equipped with a full kitchen, washer and dryer, but the appliances were showing their age and the phones never worked. The resort has two pools with excellent kiddie areas, a small tour office, no hot tub or bar. A beach within walking distance has no beach chairs or other amenities, but a beach club some distance away is accessible via golf cart or shuttle bus. A fitness center, tennis and golf are available at extra charge.
The resort is less disabled-accessible than most. We got one of several handicapped-access units with the master bedroom, living area and bath at ground level. Most units, however, are two-story villas with stairs to the bedrooms. The flight of stairs from the handicapped parking lot to the main building and pool was not easy for my walker-equipped wife and would have been impossible for a wheelchair user.
The resort staff is very attentive but poorly equipped and undermanned. Club Cala should offer a better experience in a year or so if the new owners upgrade the facilities.

Dream Vacation
by Tod Renalds from Buffalo, NY USA
I recently returned from a stay in Club Cala at Palmas del Mar in Humacao, Puerto Rico. I would entirely recommend this vacation to anyone. I was there for a week with my wife and 4 kids, I didn't see my kids until my last night there. It is just amazing to wake up, drink a cup of coffee, get dressed and walk down to the beach, first thing in the morning. It is greatly relaxing or very romantic. Just the thought of going to the beach and sitting there all day, reading a book... heaven. The beach can be filled to capacity but it still manages to make you feel like you have it all to yourself. To kids this may sound boring, but not to mine. You see, the streets are ruled by golf carts that you can rent, locals own them. These carts have access to all the spots in Palmas del Mar and they are a fun thing for your kids to have. My kids would wake up late, go on the golf cart to the beach, meet people and mingle until midnight, or later. One other thing that can't be missed is a trail ride at Rancho Buena Vista. It is the equestrian center at the resort. It was still not fully constructed at the time of my visit, but it is obvious it will be breath taking once it is finished. We took the 1 hour ride to the beach and back. It is a once in a lifetime experience to be able to ride a horse on the sand with the waves breaking at your feet. Sincerely, you would be a fool to come to this resort and not take part in this experience. I don't have much time to keep telling you how wonderful Puerto Rico is, so I will leave you with this thought. THE FOOD IS AWESOME!

Little Slice of Heaven on Earth
by C. Walton from Jefferson City, MI
My time at Palmas del Mar can only be described as wonderful. I was there for business, coming back to the resort every day made it seem like vacation. The long walks on the beach and grounds (the grounds are breath taking) took every ounce of stress away and made me forget why I had really come to Puerto Rico. The staff was always there with a smile, seeming to know just what I wanted before I had to ask, and the food, oh my goodness. I still crave the chocolate cheese cake from there, nothing I have tried since comes even close. The sea food was always fresh and wonderful. I was there for 4 weeks and never tried every thing on the menu, and never got bored with the selection. Over all it was a wonderful time and I hope to return someday so I can share this wonderful place with my family.
